One of the projects I have been working on over the past week is to create a series of products on Zazzle using a picture I took a few months ago from one of our windows. Looking from Rainier, Oregon across the Columbia river towards Washington is a spectacular view of bright sunlight shining on a layer of dark, moody clouds above a layer of golden morning sky. Beyond the silhouettes of evergreens and small town buildings, the Columbia river shimmers with an amber glow of reflected sunrise as the far bank is obscured in a dark morning mist…

A few days ago I used my photo, Misty Moon Over the Columbia River, to create some items on zazzle.
In this picture the moon lights up misty clouds with translucent white light in a stormy looking purplish sky above Longview, Washington. Surrounded by mountain ranges which disappearing into distant haze, the city lights blaze like dots of fire along the banks of the Columbia River. Seen through the forest on the hills of Rainier, Oregon the river flows thought the Columbia River Gorge towards the sea as the dusk begins to deepen into night…

Sunrise over the Columbia River #1 by Dawna Morton
Looking from Rainier, Oregon across the Columbia river towards Washington is a spectacular view of bright sunlight shining on a layer of dark, moody clouds above a layer of golden morning sky. Beyond the silhouettes of evergreens and small town buildings, the Columbia river shimmers with an amber glow of reflected sunrise as the far bank is obscured in a dark morning mist.
Nestled among the forest silhouettes, the masonic lodge and a church steeple stand in subdued silence as the golden sunrise lights up the cloudy Oregon sky above the Columbia river.
Brilliantly the sun shines from behind darkened clouds in an early morning sky as it rises over the Columbia River. The Masonic Lodge and a church steeple nestle sleepily among the Oregon forest in Rainier, as the river flows shining in the golden sunlight toward the pacific ocean, and the opposite shore of Kelso and Longview, Washington is obscured in a hazy mist.
The Columbia River shines radiantly in the sunrise as it flows tranquilly towards the pacific ocean bordered by dark silhouettes of evergreen trees standing like sentinels on the Oregon shore and mist shrouded mountains beyond in Washington.
As the sun rises over the Columbia river, a masonic lodge and church steeple rise above the forest of the surrounding hills in Rainier, Oregon. Silvery gray and luminescent white in the early morning light, the clouds blanket the pacific northwest sky.

Last month I was on my way to pick my son up from an after school activity, and the moon was so beautiful I stopped and took some pictures on the way. It seemed to loom larger than usual in the sky, full with visible craters. The sky was just beginning to change colors for sunset, and the clouds were an array of soft lavender and pink. Unfortunately, even with my zoom lens it was not possible to catch the size and scale of the moon in the sky. In most of the shots The moon ended up appearing as a bright orb–rather than showing all the craters as it had when seen with a naked eye; however, I was able to go back in and edit the shadows in some of the photos to bring it them back out. Below is one of my favorites of the ones I took that evening:
The moon lights up misty clouds with translucent white light in a stormy looking purplish sky above Longview, Washington. Surrounded by mountain ranges which disappearing into distant haze, the city lights blaze like dots of fire along the banks of the Columbia River. Seen through the forest on the hills of Rainier, Oregon the river flows thought the Columbia River Gorge towards the sea as the dusk begins to deepen into night.
In this digitally altered photograph, a dryad appears like an apparition of peripheral vision raising twig-like hands towards the moon through the purple clouds in the pink twilight sky.

As I mentioned in part 1, once I was satisfied with the photos I had taken of the sunburst through the trees, I then moved on to capture some of the more subtle effects of the sun rays on the forest.
I love how the sunbeams create a heavenly light in these pictures. Lighting really does make all the difference in the mood and feeling of a photograph. It can make an ordinary scene into something truly spectacular.
Notice how the focal point is not the forest, but the light itself. It seems to radiate a peace and joy and warmth as its radiant glow illuminates the forest. Soft and ethereal, the sunlight turns an ordinary forest scene into something truly glorious.
These images seem to beckon, inviting a quiet morning walk of tranquil reflection and spiritual reawakening. Moments like these stir a desire to find the divine within us and to strive to attain a higher level of excellence. feeling at peace and harmony, we can then be rejuvenated and re-energized in our efforts to become better than we are.
If you liked these photos you may also like to see more in part 3, part 4, and sunlight in my forest.
