I have to say I LOVE my yard!
Every spring I look forward to the  white bleeding hearts coming into bloom in the front yard, I love their old fashioned beauty. They are the first blossoms in my yard each spring, followed by the red bleeding hearts, and the pink ones, blooming in the backyard. For weeks now my trigger finger has been itching as I have been keeping a close eye on them and on the sunlight out the window for the perfect photo opportunity. Last week I managed to get out with my camera for a few minutes on two separate occasions when there was a break in the rain and the sun peeked out brilliantly between the clouds. After looking the first batch of pictures, while doing some editing, it occurred to me that they would look lovely against a dark background. so the next time the sun was out I grabbed a dark blue binder we had and stuck it behind the blossoms in the photos. This worked beautifully after editing to soften the background as well as making some other artistic editing choices. I may experiment with some other background choices the next time the lighting is good. Here are just a few, I’ll be posting more here soon….

Recently I used details of my photo Gnat Creek Flowers #2 to create a matching set of stationery, postage and stickers. I love how the delicate tiny white wildflowers catch the glow of the sunlight. Something about how they look with the interesting abstract look of the splotchy warm brown mottled river rock behind them is just beautiful.

Last week when I was doing some marketing optimization of my Zazzle product ( making sure there are links to help people find matching postage, stationery, and stickers etc). I decided that some of the details in my water soluble oil painting, Midsummer Daydream, would make some beautiful stickers to match some of the stationery I already had for sale. They also make pretty magnets and key chains.

This sticker shows a view of fairies dancing on green lily pads surrounded by red lilies floating on dark blue water.

Several years ago, when we were returning from a family vacation, I snapped some photos of a beautiful sunset through the passenger window of our car. We were traveling along HWY 97 and HWY 26 from the Bend area to the vicinity of Portland, Oregon. What attracted me in this particular shot was the rhythmic patterns of the sprinklers in foreground. If memory serves correctly, the sprinklers were watering a crop of fragrant mint. As the many row of sprinklers each moved back and forth in unison, the sunset lights up layers of clouds above a beautiful view of a broad expanse of the cascade mountains. I think the tallest may be Broken Top, although I am not entirely sure.
I did end up editing this photo by removing some of the part closer to the car which were blurred because we were still in motion, as well as removing evidence of the car window from the shot. I have another version where I adjusted some of the lighting and colors, which I  posted earlier.

This week I created a series of products on zazzle Using my painting, Oakridge Reservoir #3

Watercolor painting on Fabriano Uno 300 lb Soft Press 100% cotton paper, 7 1/2″x 11″, 2001. Sunrise over Oakridge Reservoir, on a tranquil Oregon morning. Smooth as glass, the water mirrors calm reflections of driftwood and a fishing boat. Peace and solitude as the day breaks over the cool blue mountains. This is one of a series of 4 watercolor paintings I did of Oakridge Reservoir quite a number of years ago. We went camping in Oakridge during august one year for vacation, and while we were there I took some lovely reference photos of the reservoir early in the morning. It’s a really lovely place, not far from Springfield and Eugene, Oregon–it’s very family friendly with lots of outdoor recreational activities. Painted on a very smooth sample of Fabriano Uno 300 lb Soft Press 100% cotton paper, this early morning scene inspires reflection and peacefulness as well as a sense of the majesty and grandeur of nature and God’s creations. The waters of the reservoir are smooth as glass as they reflect the logs and driftwood within the reflections of the shadowy mountains. An evergreen branch seems to point past the small fishing boat moored alone at the dock towards the pale yellow dawn light filling the sky and creeping across the mountains while three pale gray clouds hover in the distance.

This week I used my painting Oakridge Reservoir #4 to create some items on zazzle. The original is watercolor on Fabriano Uno 300 lb Rough 100% cotton paper, 7 1/2″ x 11″, 2001.  A gnarly tree stump surrounded by weathered gray branches juxtaposed against a view of algae and rocks under the vibrant blue water of Oakridge Reservoir. Forested green Oregon mountains frame the hazy blue mountain ranges in the distance. These would be a great inexpensive way to get a souvenir of a great vacation or just enjoy some fine art.

This week I made a T-shirt design on Redbubble of my water-soluble oil painting, Midsummer Daydream.

Water soluble oils on gessoed paper. 14 3/4″ x 11 1/4″ 2007.
The wood sprite creates ripples in his refection as he daydreams. Fairies dance on the lily pads and skate across the water while his leaf boat floats away to dreamland.

This week I designed some stationery using some macro photos I took while hiking through the snow towards Fox creek last winter in Rainier,Oregon. Using Paint.net, I transposed a semi transparent layer of white over the photos in order to create a writing area. I love these pictures, every time I look at them I see something new. They make a beautiful stationery.

imagination flowing stationery

This stationary features a macro photo of melting snow as it floods a forested trail, rippling and glistening in the sun as it flows down the foliage strewn path toward fox creek. Interesting patterns of light and shadow, along with varying leaf colors and shapes mix and blend, stirring the imagination. In the eye of the beholder, and with layers of meaning there are unexplored possibilities, untold stories and images of hidden faces, inviting the viewer to return again and again to focus and ponder what new things they can see.

imagination flowing #2 stationery

Almost like a game of I spy, this stationary featuring one of my macro photos of water from melting snow flowing over a forested trail sparks the imagination with hidden pictures in the abstract patterns withing the fallen foliage and the reflections of the water flowing over them. As the sun glistens and sparkles in the reflections in the melting snow water moving over the golden bronze forest detritus, layers of interesting patterns and shapes appear. I spy a star, a heart, a down-turned face with a “feather” in his cap, an eagle or falcon in it’s nest, a humming bird, and the figure of a man on a boat to name a few. Each time I look at this shot I see something new hiding in the wet leaves. I originally intended this photo to be seen horizontally, but try turning it in different directions and see where your imagination takes you…
